Hypothesis of Fractional Age
Background: The life table provides survival distributions at integer ages, but sometimes we need survival data at fractional ages. In this case, we rely on survival data between two adjacent integers and assume a certain survival distribution at fractional ages to estimate survival status.
Basic Principle: Interpolation method
Common Methods:
- Uniform distribution assumption (Linear interpolation)
- Constant force of mortality assumption (Geometric interpolation)
- Balducci assumption (Harmonic interpolation)
