XML Processing in Scripting Languages
Processing XML in Perl, Python, and PHP involves handling databases and extracting information. A previous job involved managing a UK government body's databases using a text-retrieval system. The system allowed searching entire documents, not just specific fields. Programs were written to process and extract information, such as addresses and phone numbers, for database updates. Access was through a Sun-based Unix system, and communication between PCs and Macs occurred via Telnet to the Sun server. Ten years later, the process has evolved, with new tools and methods available.
