OSGi, initially known as Open Services Gateway Initiative, emerged in 1999 to cater to the embedded device market. With the participation of nearly 30 companies, many already invested in Java, the language of the time, OSGi aimed to target the home embedded device market. This initiative aimed to leverage Java to develop and deploy modular software solutions efficiently in this market segment.
